1. Dog Walking

If you’re struggling to find motivation to get out and walk, try walking with your best friend, specifically the furry one with four legs. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who loves to exercise more than a dog, and that enthusiasm can be contagious, as Women’s Health Magazine points out. “A dog is always ready and willing to go.” Although your neighbor may cancel or your human friend may complain, your dog will be ready to go and get is summer fitness glow on.  Your furry friend will not whisper a sound of disappointment when you suggest taking the long route. Don’t forget that the warmer weather means taking extra precautions, so keep you and your pooch hydrated with water, and lather on the sunscreen to prevent sun damage. If you don’t have a dog, work part-time as a dog walker or volunteer at your local shelter. You’re less likely to cancel if your date is a client or a homeless dog in need of exercise and attention.  Be sure to walk early in the morning or in the evenings, so it does not get too hot for your furry friend.

2. Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is a great way to plan your summer fitness routine. “Ascending a cliff, boulder, or even an indoor rock wall requires a large amount of physical strength and endurance,” says Huffington Post.

You’ll improve flexibility as your master tricky maneuvers, build upper and lower-body strength, and get in the same level of cardio as jogging. Climbing for one hour burns up to 700 calories and also works your brain since it requires the use of problem-solving skills and body awareness. Climbers who completely lose themselves in their climb enter a mindset that can create a sense of euphoria and block pain, so you can be happy and stress-free while you get fit and take advantage of the spring and summer seasons.

3. Jazzzumbaercise

Jazzercise describes itself as “a high intensity dance party that fuses cardio, strength, Pilates, hip hop, yoga, and kickboxing.” You can burn up to 800 calories in one 60-minute class! Since Jazzercise offers a variety of classes to challenge you, it’s sure to maintain your interest for summer fitness. In fact, they’ve been around as a popular exercise program for more than 45 years. Don’t worry – you won’t necessarily be dancing to 80s music. Jazzercise has made it part of their mission to continuously evolve their music, moves, classes, and methods. With more than 8,300 franchise locations teaching more than 32,000 classes each week around the world, you will more than likely find something you’ll love near you.

4. Surfing

Surfing in the ocean is a fun way to exercise and cool off during the summer, but you can also surf indoors – with or without water. Many indoor activity centers offer the opportunity to partake in extreme sports, such as skateboarding, laser tag, and indoor surfing in a wave simulator. If you’d like to get the surfer workout without the water, you can try a program such as Surfset, which utilizes a stationary surfboard that simulates surfing and gives you a full-body workout. Paddling works shoulders and lower back, while giving you cardio. Duck-diving through waves works arms, and the pop-up maneuver works core and chest muscles. Finally, the process of standing and surfing works legs and all postural muscles, perfect for summer fitness.

Crush Your Fitness Goals in 2017

Each year, 1 in 5 New Year’s Resolutions are related to health and fitness. Sadly, only about 8% of people follow through on their New Year’s Resolutions. The rest give up and fall off the fitness bandwagon.

Sound familiar? If you don’t want to be one of those people this year, here are some tips to help you crush your fitness goals in 2017 and beyond.

Get Clear on Your Intentions – New Year’s Resolutions can be thought of as the intentions and goals you are setting for the year to come. The first step to achieving any intention is to get really clear about what it is that you want to accomplish. What will you do more of? What will you do less of? Get out a pen and paper and write it down – there is a certain power to having it in writing.

Set SMART goals – How will you determine if your New Year’s Resolution has been successful or not? Many of us set vague New Year’s Resolutions like “losing weight” or “finding balance.” How do you measure your success? Experts say it’s better to set SMART goals instead. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Oriented. Top achievers around the world know that SMART goals are to thank for their successes.

Get Paid (or Pay for It) – There are several websites and smartphone applications that will pay you to lose weight – with a catch. If you fail to meet your fitness goal, they will actually charge you money instead. That’s one way to keep yourself motivated to hit your goals!

Don’t Do It Alone – Find a workout buddy or join a team. Make it your regular “girls night” and enjoy a healthy meal afterwards. Incorporate fitness into your date night by taking a dance class together. If you’re competitive, make it a competition. Sign up for a race, or do a Biggest Loser-themed challenge. Join a Crossfit team or a Team Beachbody monthly challenge group. Remember, your workout buddies don’t have to be local; the beauty of the internet is that people all over the world can work out together “virtually” from their local gyms or even their own homes and cheer each other onward. Losing weight and getting fit is always easier when you don’t have to do it alone!

Never Give Up – If you fall off the bandwagon and miss a workout one day, that’s okay. If you enjoy a cheat meal or drinks with a friend over the weekend, don’t beat yourself up. Just press the “reset” button and get back to working towards your goal the very next day. Don’t give up on yourself. Stick with it. You can do this!

Always trust in yourself and believe that you can (and will) get there. You can do anything you set your mind to, including accomplishing your fitness resolution. Whether you want to get fit, lose weight, tone up, or beat your personal best record this year, now is the time to transform your body and transform your life.

The Fourth of July

Freedom…freedom of choice. We often forget we have this amazing gift called freedom what allows us to make the choices that are best for us. How we take care of our bodies, what food we put in our mouths, whether we make time to fit in a workout or don’t. It all comes back to freedom.

Freedom to decide who you surround yourself with, what you read, what you watch, what kind of personal surroundings you live in. Each decision leads us to the next moment in our life. So celebrate the 4th of July by committing to making choices that will leave you feeling good inside, physically, mentally and spiritually. Ask yourself what kind of body do I want to live in? What kind of people do I want to surround myself with? What kind of setting do I want to live in? Ask yourself am I doing something that brings me joy and  if I could do anything, what would it be?  Sometimes we forget about this very important word – freedom. Remind yourself that you are free to design your life and to make the right choices that support your personal vision. Enjoy the 4th and exercise your right to freedom.
