Each year, 1 in 5 New Year’s Resolutions are related to health and fitness. Sadly, only about 8% of people follow through on their New Year’s Resolutions. The rest give up and fall off the fitness bandwagon.
Sound familiar? If you don’t want to be one of those people this year, here are some tips to help you crush your fitness goals in 2017 and beyond.
Get Clear on Your Intentions – New Year’s Resolutions can be thought of as the intentions and goals you are setting for the year to come. The first step to achieving any intention is to get really clear about what it is that you want to accomplish. What will you do more of? What will you do less of? Get out a pen and paper and write it down – there is a certain power to having it in writing.
Set SMART goals – How will you determine if your New Year’s Resolution has been successful or not? Many of us set vague New Year’s Resolutions like “losing weight” or “finding balance.” How do you measure your success? Experts say it’s better to set SMART goals instead. SMART goals are: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time Oriented. Top achievers around the world know that SMART goals are to thank for their successes.
Get Paid (or Pay for It) – There are several websites and smartphone applications that will pay you to lose weight – with a catch. If you fail to meet your fitness goal, they will actually charge you money instead. That’s one way to keep yourself motivated to hit your goals!
Don’t Do It Alone – Find a workout buddy or join a team. Make it your regular “girls night” and enjoy a healthy meal afterwards. Incorporate fitness into your date night by taking a dance class together. If you’re competitive, make it a competition. Sign up for a race, or do a Biggest Loser-themed challenge. Join a Crossfit team or a Team Beachbody monthly challenge group. Remember, your workout buddies don’t have to be local; the beauty of the internet is that people all over the world can work out together “virtually” from their local gyms or even their own homes and cheer each other onward. Losing weight and getting fit is always easier when you don’t have to do it alone!
Never Give Up – If you fall off the bandwagon and miss a workout one day, that’s okay. If you enjoy a cheat meal or drinks with a friend over the weekend, don’t beat yourself up. Just press the “reset” button and get back to working towards your goal the very next day. Don’t give up on yourself. Stick with it. You can do this!
Always trust in yourself and believe that you can (and will) get there. You can do anything you set your mind to, including accomplishing your fitness resolution. Whether you want to get fit, lose weight, tone up, or beat your personal best record this year, now is the time to transform your body and transform your life.
